Unit 109

Makani Sands unit #109 is located on the 1st floor with quick access to our sandy beach. Private lanai on the ocean side has a table & chairs so you can sit with your morning coffee or watch the sunset over the ocean in the evening. There is a king bed in the bedroom and a sofa bed in the living room for an extra guest. There is a TV in the living room as well as the bedroom for your pleasure, and DVD/CD player for your enjoyment. Fully equipped kitchen with all the necessary appliances. Other amenities include a grilling station where you can barbecue your favorite meat or fresh island fish on our waterside gas grills. You are also located right next to the heated pool for an afternoon swim.
This unit includes a washer and dryer for your convenience.

  Location is great. This unit needs some love and upgrades. The main curtains were terrible. The bed linen was not clean. The patio doors are really difficult to open. A fan in the bathroom. The dishwasher would come on a few times a day on its own!

  Although a bit dated I didn't have to struggle with technology to be at home. The location is very good and first floor made it easy to sit out along the breakwater and watch the turtles. The description specifically says beach access but the stairs are gone and even at low tide there's only about 8 feet of sand. We didn't need anything from the management but they were warm and friendly. Great spot for an older crowd. I will comment on the awesome bed.I forgot to look at the label but it was superb.

  What can I say. Makani Sands is always great.
  Not all units are the same. Unit 109 needs a lot of help. I wrote up what it needs and lacks and turned the list into the office. I will not recommend unit 109. My commitments below pertain to the overall property not unit 109. Safety issues, IE Lani carpet trip hazard. Furniture old, Surf board in closet, Bicycle in unit. Ceiling fan coming apart. The on site people did what they could to help. They are great.

  We have been to Makani Sands several times over the years and stayed in a few different units. We have stayed in this unit before and were terribly disappointed with the condition of the condo when we arrived. It simply was not clean, so we spent a few hours cleaning it ourselves upon arrival. The manager remedied this as best as possible and provided a mid stay cleaning as compensation. We were short changed on towels and bedding, and had to do laundry daily because we had to share a single wash cloth. We will still return to Makani Sands because the location and the residents are so wonderful.

  I had a lovely time at Makani Sands. This was my third stay at this property. The grounds were beautiful. The unit was clean but is in need of an upgrade. In order to charge the rates being asked it should be kept up to date in terms of finishes. Also the kitchen could be stocked better in terms of utensils etc.

  Beautiful View. Keep the door open at night, sleep on the pull out and listen to the waves. Condo was clean; however it could use a fresh coat of paint and moulding replaced. That being said, would go back in a heartbeat.

  My top priority is a direct ocean view, preferably with beach accessibility, and Makani Sands has both although there is less sand in winter than in summer. Unit 109 is a basic unit with an outdated kitchen and furnishings. The bedroom mattress was comfortable but the foldout couch mattress was thin. On arrival the bedroom television didn’t work but the manager was very responsive in fixing it. In previous years I have enjoyed the Monday “pupu” events where guests and owners share appetizers and drinks at sunset but that event didn’t happen on one of the two Mondays I was there.

  Never been touched since new which a shame !
  The property location is great and very well cared for.
  You can see the staff and grounds keeper are doing a great job and that clearly shows.
  From #109 we moved upstairs to # 205 and walking through the door you see the love taken in this unit.
  When your renting expensive properties I think it’s a shame to allow some owners to lower the bar for a property.
  If we had not had the luck of seeing unit 205 we would have been telling all our friends to stay away from Unit 109 !
  The owners of 109 should be forced to upgrade that unit as it’s not fair to the other owners .

  We stayed in a ground floor one bedroom unit which was well equipped with everything you need for a comfortable holiday.
  Having the pool on the road side of the building, not the ocean side, made it very peaceful. No splashing around noise to interrupt your serene view out over the ocean watching passing yachts and turtles.
  The perfect place to relax and watch the sun setting.
  An added plus is that the local bus stop is right outside Makana Sands so if you don’t have a car, no problem, you can go north to Kapalua or south to Lahaina on the bus.
  The unit we were in was quite old, therefore even though it had been cleaned, the age of the property meant it could not be spotless. Also the bedroom at the rear of the unit was very dark.
  However, we enjoyed our stay and will return.

  We have stayed here many times and it is our favorite spot. It's a small complex and alot of the guests are repeat customers. All units have unobstructed ocean views. It's usually pretty quiet and not crowded at all. No need to go out with your beach towel first thing in the morning and "save your lounge chair"! The grill area is a great place to watch the sunset with a drink in hand,cooking dinner and, talking about the days adventures with your new friends!

  Location is great, 18 of the top 20 things to do and 8 of the top 10 restaurants were all within 25 minutes. Can't be replicated. While oceanfront, it's really about 25 steps out and down a 15-20 foot ledge. Some reviews that read turtles walk up to your door, Impossible. There's not really beach access, the water slams the wall all morning and when we arrived in afternoon for check in at 3:30ish was still then, I know that's a plus for many so you don't have to pay to park and beach. The water calms down by night.
  
  A few annoying things. $189 charged in total for rental fee and cleaning. We had to clean all glasses and plates over upon arrival, they were still dirty or not dried. Have to make and clean bed everyday, wash towels if you want them fresh, separate garbage in design for Hawaii. So for $189 you are paying them to vacuum the room basically.
  
  Emphasized all over the premise is quite hours. This was our honeymoon so we opted for more adult areas in terms of stay and quiet hours was a plus for us. The first three nights right above us were children. They ran and screamed all day and night and majority of this was during quiet hours since no one is there in non quiet hours. We were woken up several times between 3-4 am. The last 3 days, new kids were next to us and families/friends were separated. Same crying and screaming and they screamed to each other from floor 1 to 2 outside our floor. If quiet hours is going to be a selling point on the site and all over, it should be followed accordingly.
  
  Shower water only stayed hot for 2-3 minutes. We would take breaks which became obnoxious by the end of the trip but tough to waste honeymoon time on it.
  
  Property manager works his butt off. Property was very clean in my opinion, I saw him everyday whether leaving for our destination or dinner still working. Marie was very nice and informative upon arrival.

  This was our 5th or 6th visit to Maui. We've stayed at Makani Sands 3 different times. We really like this place. It's older than other condos we've stayed at but it has so many pluses. Or room was on the first floor. We can sit on our patio and see the ocean which is less than 60 feet away. We were in 109. Bed was great. It is clean and has nice furniture. Easy parking. Friendly permanent residents and nice guests. On Monday evenings they have a cook out which is a great time to meet others. Our kitchen had everything we needed. We ate every breakfast at our condo. We would either eat lunch or dinner out & fix the other meal in our room. We will definitely be going here again. This is our favorite place to stay on Maui.

  Very unhappy with the unit. The bedding was ripped. There were broken tiles in the bathroom. The stove burner didn't work. The furniture and carpet is very dirty. This unit needs to be updated if you are going to charge the same price as the other condos which are very nice.   Great location, condo well laid out. This unit needs a lot of work; very outdated and worn. It needs a new sliding door to lanai, new cupboard doors, replace bdrm furniture and shower door in bathroom. LR furniture needs deep cleaning and the whole unit needs to be cleaned and painted.   # 104 is in serious need of upgrade; bed, carpet in living room needs to be tiled. Sofa quite uncomfortable for a grown man.

  We had a wonderful time staying at Makanisands unit 109. The unit was clean. The location was awesome. We sat outside in the morning and watched for whales. We also saw some turtles. The management company for the unit was great. They were very helpful and delivered on everything that was agreed upon.
  A couple of other comments : the unit is in need upgrade. It seemed as thought other units were more modern. Also the kitchen could be better stocked. Ie: salad bowl, newer tea kettle.
  All in all I would recommend Makanisands to my friend. But I would suggest they look to rent another unit first before deciding on unit 109.
  You cannot beat the location and the management group did a great job during our stay.

  We really enjoyed Makani Sands on our recent stay and planning to return next year. We found the resort to be very friendly
  If I may make a couple of suggestions for improvement they would be: (1) to provide some option for shade for guests while sitting or lounging on the oceanfront patio and (2) to find some form (perhaps more perimeter landscaping or higher fencing) of sound protection from the street traffic noise during sleeping hours.
