  Makani Sands condos were such a great place to stay and so close to many amenities and activities. The location could not be more beautiful. The condo we stayed in had not been remodeled compared to our other family member's condos and throughout our stay we battled ants in the kitchen area despite being diligent about cleaning up after eating and keeping all of our food items in the fridge. Overall, these were really only minor complaints. We had a great time and saw lots of sea life from our balcony including: whales, dolphins, sea turtles, and eel.

  The property is in a great location - right on the water and just 10-15 min away from Lahaina. The complex was clean however the bbq area and steps to the ocean were blocked off by caution tape. Our rental unit was very dated in terms of the bathrooms and general decore. However, the location of the unit made the trip for us.

  We have been staying at Makani Sands for about 5 times in the last 6 years. We normally rent the 3 bedrooms and have always been very, very happy with those units. This time we rented the 210 unit and we’re extremely dissatisfied with the condo. This unit is in need of major repairs and detailed cleaning. I will point out that Tammy the Manager was very helpful in getting us the maintenance person to help with the items we needed. We were not informed that the unit was for sale and had a Realtor show up the next day to show unit. I researched and seen ad for verification. After all four left we seen the 3 clients decide to use beach area at their leisure when Realtor left. In closing, this experience won’t keep us away. We will stay again. (Not in this unit).

  Overall the experience with unit 210 was positive, but it would benefit from a deep cleaning and new bedding. The sofa bed mattress is quite old and stained, and should be replaced if rented as a unit that sleeps 6. The Property Management was great and kept the common areas clean and attractive.

The apartment was quiet comfortable as we had 6 adults staying.The rooms were quiet at night and beds comfortable to sleep in.The couple using the fold out lounge just put the mattress on the floor making there sleep comfortable. We woke each day to whales jumping and turtles right out front. Magical sunsets to finish each day. The kitchen is small but you can work around this. The staff helped us with anything we needed. I would come back for sure.

  Unit 210 is a 2bd/2ba corner unit. Delightfully close to the water and turtle viewing! Condo is bit outdated. Master bed squeaks and there are NO closeable curtains or blinds in the master bedroom which is terrible since the morning sun shines bright, early and hot. Would be a minor investment by owners and improve quality of unit. The condo is well stocked with all the kitchen appliances and dishes you could possibly need. Was very pleased!

At first, we were worried no AC would be a problem, but we never once needed or wanted it - the breeze and air flow throughout the unit was great. The only one minor thing we wished is that the wifi had been a bit better. We lost connectivity several times. But, it wasn't a big issue at all.

  We love these traditional condos in a smaller community. The location is spectacular with sea turtles feeding on the rocks right off the patio. Great location for families w/kitchens and lovely lanais. Stellar views, beautiful sunsets, snorkeling opportunities right outside your door. The Makani Sands staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Long term residents are welcoming. This particular unit has a few drawbacks. 1) The beds are terrible. Incredibly noisy and uncomfortable. 2) Since it is an end unit, the "master" bedroom faces exterior lights that stay on all night, too bright for sleeping (we solved this with eye masks). We would absolutely choose the Makani Sands again, however we might try a different unit for the sake of better sleep!

  We stayed in unit 210 for 28 days. While the location is ideal and the view is spectacular, the furnishings need updating to enhance comfort level including lanai patio set. It would greatly add to this unit if bathrooms and kitchen were modernized. (Especially the showers to allow for taller people to use without crouching.) the washer was not working when we arrived but a new washer was installed by mid stay. That was greatly appreciated. Marie was terrific and assisted us in everything we needed. Marie even found 2 beach chairs and a 3rd chair of her own for us to use. The condo has lots of pots, pans and baking dishes. The beach in front of the property was gone, however many of the west Maui beaches have been effected by weather conditions.

  We stayed in Unit 210 last year and again this year for one week each time. It feels like home now, and it's like staying at a relative's vacation house. Virtually everything you need is already there--right down to a box of Bandaids. The breezes are unbeatable, and the sound of the surf will lull you to sleep each night. You will want to keep your sliding glass doors and screens open all the time on your lanai to maximize the feeling of living outdoors. This is an older condo building, but it is clean, quiet and safe. The only thing you won't have is lots of tourists all over the property. It is quiet and private....hence, relaxing.

  The facility and views is what sells this place. This is the 3rd time I have stayed here, but first time in this 2 Bedroom. We all loved the beach & turtles which we noticed very few properties have. There are lots of choices for food and shopping within walking distance.   This is a lovely condo located right on a small beach. We enjoyed whale watching from our lanai and admiring the giant sea turtles right on the beach. Every evening, we watched a glorious sun set. The unit was clean and had tons of supplies (kitchen, beach and picnic) for guests to use.There are lots of nice places to walk to, including the Honokawai Farmer's Market, several coffee spots, a nice park and Cliff's Bar and Grill. The beds were comfie, the rooms had lots of space for 5 of us although we were rarely inside!

  This is our second stay at Makoni Sands. What a great time! We rented two units. Room 210 was great, well-maintained and had a lovely ocean breeze. We enjoyed listening to the surf while we slept. The daily visits from the sea turtles were an extra treat. Our large family (9 of us total) enjoyed using the fabulous gas grills Oceanside. Our evenings were lovely as we sat and played games and listened to music together as a family. Bert (the property manager) was a neat guy and very helpful.   property was very dirty, and so cluttered with owners "junk" in closets etc. Also water had leaked into 2d bedroom as well as dining room and we had not been alerted to. This unit was supposedly getting repairs done two weeks after we left and was told was due for a deep cleaning....floors horrible, even under refrigerator in front had not been scrubbed--we were VERY disappointed. Owner agreed to give us back about 1/4 of our $ and cleaning deposit was to be refunded. (Have not yet seen on our cc statement however) Location of Makani Sands is great and liked the overall property, was the particular unit we were in. (falsely advertised to us)Unit below us (same size) rents for same amount and appeared to be very clean as well as uncluttered and updated....this unit had not been updated other than new small vanities in both bathrooms at all.

  Makani Sands is a great place to stay on Maui. It is north of Lahaina though and the area is less crowded and commercial. You can see whales and/or turtles from your balcony every day. There is a resident turtle who climbs onto the beach every evening at sunset to sleep. We love it there and plan to go back in 2015. One tip would be to check with the property manager on when the unit you are reserving was last updated or remodeled, a couple of units could use an upgrade. Property Management is easy to work with and very helpful with all kinds of things needed for a great vacation.

  The sound of the ocean can be heard loud and clear in your apartment. Beautiful sunsets every night. Close to great beaches, stores and restaurants. The water right in front is inviting and often visited by sea turtles!
